Hues and Cues is a vibrant, social game of colourful communication where players give one- and two-word clues to help others guess specific colours from 480 shades on the board. What colour comes to mind when you hear "coffee"? Dark brown like freshly brewed, or lighter like café au lait? Everyone interprets colours differently, and that's what makes Hues and Cues so delightfully engaging. With simultaneous guessing, creative wordplay, and points awarded for accuracy, this game celebrates how our minds connect words to colours in surprising ways.

How to play

One player becomes the "cue giver" and secretly chooses a target colour from the 480 shades on the board. All other players take a turn receiving clues (one or two words) that describe the target colour. After hearing all the clues, everyone simultaneously places their marker on which colour they think is being described. Points are awarded based on accuracy: the closer your guess to the actual target, the more points you earn. After everyone has had a turn giving cues, tally scores. The player with the most points wins. The beauty lies in the wordplay: "Coffee" might mean dark brown to one person and warm caramel to another—and both could be right depending on the target.

Why you'll love it

Hues and Cues succeeds because it celebrates the subjectivity of colour perception. Unlike games with objective answers, this game embraces different interpretations. The 480 shades mean you're never guessing from just a handful of options—precision matters, and accuracy is rewarded. The simultaneous guessing keeps everyone engaged (no waiting for turns). The one- and two-word restriction forces creative, poetic clue-giving: you can't say "the colour of a stop sign"; you must say something cleverly brief like "danger" or "halt." Perfect for groups who love wordplay, creative thinking, or anyone seeking a game that sparks conversation and laughter. The colour theme is universally appealing and visually striking. Works beautifully at any player count (3–10), from intimate groups to large gatherings. Ages 10+ ensures accessibility while allowing deep wordplay for older players. At 30 minutes, games move at a comfortable pace without overstaying their welcome.
